ICLEF remembers George M. Schain

Well recognized and respected presenter George M. Schain passed away at his home on Thursday, November 3, 2011.  George will be missed as he was an active presenter throughout the United States and was part of the ICLEF program curriculum since 2005.  We extend our sympathies to George’s family, friends and close associates…

GEORGE M. SCHAIN was nationally recognized as one of the most knowledgeable and enthusiastic speakers on estate and gift taxation, estate planning, financial planning, IRS practice and procedure and individual income tax. He had lectured throughout the United States for almost all state CPA societies, universities, bar associations, and other professional groups, including bankers. In addition, he had served as a fee paid instructor for the IRS in Manhattan and an in-house provider for the American Bar Association. Mr. Schain’s experience included Tax Project Manager for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Supervisor of the National Tax Training Department for Coopers and Lybrand, now known as PriceWaterhouse Coopers. He also served in the IRS as an appeals officer, specializing in the final settlement of federal income, estate and gift tax controversies; as an IRS district conferee in Manhattan; as an IRS estate tax attorney in Manhattan and Albany; and as an IRS revenue officer in Syracuse. Mr. Schain was a former adjunct professor of law at Rutgers Law School and a former associate professor of law at New York Law School (10 years). A graduate of New York University, Mr. Schain received the Doctor of Law (J.D.) degree from Fordham University School of Law. He previously had written the tax column “Practicing before the IRS” in the national tax magazine Taxation for Accountants, and was the author of several CCH tax publications, as well as Estate, Gift, Trust, and Fiduciary Tax Returns: Planning and Preparation (West, a Thomson Reuters business, 1500 pages). He had also prepared and presented continuing education videotapes for TotalTape Publishing Co., Inc., now known as Bisk Education.

The November 29 program “An Insiders Approach to Federal  Estate Gift Taxation  & Estate & Financial Planning” featuring George M. Schain has been canceled.

ICLEF will address the area of Federal Estate & Gift Tax Planning and is working with notable attorneys Eric Manterfield, Krieg DeVault-Indianapolis, and Robert Elzer, Baker & Daniels – Indianapolis, on developing a full –day seminar in the Spring of 2012.
